The Impact Of Business Support Services For Entrepreneurs And Small And Medium Sized Enterprises On Firm Performance In Norfolk And Suffolk: An Empirical Analysis Of The New Anglia Programme
- Author: Malomo, Fola
A lot of funding is going towards programmes to support entrepreneurs and small businesses in the Norfolk region based on the assumption that these individuals and businesses will benefit and create employment, leading to local economic growth and lower levels of poverty. This study reviews the evidence surrounding the New Anglia programme to see whether these results are occurring and for which groups. The study looks at SME performance including profits, revenues, and productivity, as well as firms’ ability to create employment. Evidence shows that the effect of the Hub is most pronounced on gross profits, with significant effects also occurring on firm growth. These results should be interpreted cautiously due to the fact that the data available represents the short run. As more data becomes available, more concrete conclusions can be made.
